Initiatives

The material recovery plant developed by ACT Recycling can sort concrete, brick, asphalt and select other materials. Beyond these portable plants ACT Recycling is in the process of developing a mixed construction and demolition fixed plant operation. Once completed, the new plant will sort soil, cardboard, paper, plasterboard, metals, glass, plastics, green waste, timber, bricks and concrete.

The brick recovery operations at ACT Recycling are targeted above recycling to the recovery of whole bricks for reuse. Bricks are scalped then sorted by size for resale. Broken bricks are separated and crushed for use as path aggregate. Equipment currently being developed will allow for the sorting of broken bricks by colour to create a more uniformly coloured product.

ACT Recycling has invested significant resources into engineering works with the goals of improved product quality and greater efficiencies. Such works have included the development of a concrete crushing and scalping plant that produces a product with just 1% contamination. The crushing and scalping plant utilises a range of engineering options to ensure the removal of contaminants and the safe and efficient recovery of other recyclable materials.
